Steve, congratulations on a powerful podcast. This one is your best yet (and all the others have been excellent).

While we should certainly help the homeless people with whom we come into contact, as you suggested, I wonder how we can do more. I know that we can and should volunteer at homeless shelters, soup kitchens, and also support them financially, but I wonder if we as a Church (or even we as a society) can do more.

Is it possible to completely end homelessness? If so, what must be done in order to make this dream a reality? I would love to hear your thoughts on this. I realize it might take you a whole post (or series of them), but if you have the time, I think your readers would love to hear what you have to say on this important issue.

Hi Father, Thank you for your kind words and you have given me a lot of stuff to think about for a future podcast on the topic. In a nutshell, I don't believe we can eliminate homelessness or poverty, I don't think the Church is doing nearly enough because individual Christians aren't doing nearly enough. (Alms are always above and beyond our tithes). BUT, the definition of "enough" is what I need to explicate: in typical utilitarian fashion we give to charitable causes according to projected outcomes, not need. "Oh, he'll just spend it on booze..." and that kind of thing. NO WHERE in the Old or New Testament is alms dependent on outcome of the gift.
Anyway, definitely more to come.
